Home Owner To Be…

One of my life goals is to own my first home by the age of 30. I can now check this one off as I’ve recently bought my dream home in the form of Casa Idaman, a condo currently undergoing construction, located along Jalan Ipoh, KL.

I secured a unit on one of the higher floors with a city view which is exactly what I wanted. Completion is scheduled for September 2010 and the wait is just killing me! My unit has a built up of 1062sqft with the biggest balcony of the lot. It’s got 3 rooms, 2 baths with a layout as what you can see below.

Casa Idaman - Artist Impression Type C - 1062sqft

The photos below are from the actual show unit (which is based Casa Idaman’s smallest unit - 1007sqft) that I checked out twice before finally deciding on booking a unit. The left picture is the living room with the dining hall in the background. This is where my future 52″ LCD TV (I hope) will sit along with the awesome home theater set (dreaming). I’ve got a custom TV cabinet set from Ikea that I have in mind for the living room setup. The whole living area’s gonna be carpeted of course!

The picture on the right would be bedroom 3 which I will designate as the study room that will house all the IT equipment in the house. The show unit however had the wall of bedroom 3 removed, having the whole room exposed without a door. I guess this is a trick the developer used to hide the fact that the room is quite small. It seems like a good idea though, I’m actually considering to have the same thing done to my own unit.

Left picture below shows the kitchen. Definitely Ikea kitchen cabs for me, still unsure about the colour that I want mine in, but for now white or birch seem like a good idea. Don’t think I’ll be installing a built-in ovenĀ  as I can’t bake for nuts, no intentions to learn either. I think electric stoves are the way to go these days. Saves the trouble of lugging around a back-breaking cooking gas tank up 17 floors!

Middle photo below is the dining hall. I like the glass dining table used in the show unit. I’d probably get something similar myself. Notice how the walls all around are covered in mirrors to make the unit appear more spacious.

Photo on the right below depicts the master bedroom. It’s pretty large and I really like it. The bed used in the show unit was queen sized but I intend to fit in a king sized bed instead. A built-in closet will be installed, much like the one from the show unit, sans the weird shelves that have the lamps in them. Opposite the bed will be a smaller wall-mounted LCD TV with Astro connected for some cozy late night TV watching.

First photo from the left below depicts the second bedroom which is slightly smaller than the master bedroom. This bedroom will be slightly longer in my unit. Pretty much will be sticking to what the show unit has, 2 single beds with a built-in closet. My bro will be taking this room if he decides to stay with me. The extra bed will be for a guest.

The next photo is the master bedroom bathroom. I like what was done with the show unit, but I’d probably install fully closed-up glass shower screen and lower the flooring around the shower area to prevent water from seeping into the dry area of the bathroom. I like the huge-ass mirror that almost completely covers the wall so that’s going in my unit for sure!

The photo on the right depicts the shared bathroom. Pretty small but it looks decent. I like the floor tiles used in both bathrooms, especially their texture and colour which looks really classy.

With completion due more than a year to come, it will serve as a good time period for me to save up for all renovation + furnishing work. Hopefully if everything goes well and as planned, I’ll be having my first 2011 new year’s party at my humble new abode, watching fireworks from the balcony!

Test Drive - Audi A4 1.8TFSI

A couple of friends and I paid Euromobil Glenmarie a visit yesterday to test drive one of Audi’s latest, the A4 1.8TFSI.

Now I don’t think I need to describe how absolutely brilliant this car looks. The thing that sets this car apart from others has definitely got to be the trademark Audi daytime driving LED lights which you can also find in the R8. In my opinion, I think it certainly makes the BMW angel eyes look so yesterday (Sorry BMW owners). You can find photos and detailed info of the A4 Paul Tan’s site.

Audi A4

Once seated in the cockpit, I fiddled with the settings on the electric seat to get that optimal driving position. The leather wrapped steering wheel felt good under grip. I signalled out and gunned the throttle to make my way onto the highway. Wheel spin was evident, but nicely controlled by the ESP and there was virtually no torque steer.

Cruising on the highway at sensible speeds was a pleasure with Comfort mode on. The suspension was soft, the steering light, making the ride smooth and relaxed. At 120kph, the engine RPM was only slightly above 2000. But things were starting to get boring and I thought it’s time I did what I came here for, to see what this car can really do!

I switched to car to Dynamic mode and put the tame CVT gear box into Manual mode. Now the A4 felt like it really meant business. The steering feels stiffer and more direct, throttle response sharper and the ride became noticeably more bumpy as the suspension was stiffened. With this car in manual mode, you could switch cogs using the gear lever or what I would prefer, the paddle shifters.

The acceleration was nothing short of impressive, even when it was lugging four full grown adults. Shifting up from 1st, to 2nd then 3rd and so on was quick and smooth. Shifting down however, leaves much to be desired, as I would expect from a CVT tranny. It definitely isn’t as responsive as a DSG in comparison. The other thing was that having 8 speeds made it kinda hard to keep in mind which gear you’re currently in. Though the center display does tell you that, I find the font to be quite small to read quickly.

Audi A4

I’m very surprised at how quiet and smooth the engine was even with the revs going at 6000rpm. The engine/exhaust note doesn’t really sound exactly sporty because it is heavily subdued from the cabin. So yeah, don’t expect Lamborghini growl-like sounds here. In Dynamic mode, this car is really fun to drive around corners. The grip is just fantastic and body roll is minimal. The stiffer steering provides much needed feedback from the tyres on the road.

Overall, I really enjoyed this car. Previously I have only liked the new Audi designs, but this experience made me a fan of the marque. If I had 260k to burn, I wouldn’t hesitate to opt for this over the BMW 320i. I can’t wait to try out the A4 2.0TFSI when it is launched here which I think will be even more fun to drive!

Now how do I earn 260k without selling my soul, hmm…

White Water Rafting - April 11, 2009

Went white water rafting at Sg Selangor, Kuala Kubu Baru for the first time. Seriously one of the best thrills I’ve ever experienced. I was actually having second thoughts about going after friends related to me the horror stories of people who’ve died rafting.

In the end I thought ah what the heck, I only live once!

ps. I survived!

24 Randomajigs

This was actually posted in my Facebook Notes some time ago, thought I’d post it here as well…

  1. I absolutely love coffee, from Coffee Bean Latte to Bru.
  2. I have an unusually long tongue and can lick my own nose with it.
  3. I’m an adrenaline junkie. I love going on scary amusement rides at amusement parks even though I know it will scare me shitless.
  4. As a result of #3, I love the sensation of speed and hence, drive fast most of the time. I love the feel of the seat propelling me forward in acceleration. Driving slowly bores the hell out of me.
  5. My first crush was my classmate in Standard 1. She remains one of my good friends today.
  6. I am a very fickle minded person. Sometimes I just don’t know what I want.
  7. I have a very short attention span when I read a book. I can never hold it for too long and hence I never try to read novels because I know I will not finish it.
  8. I have been fascinated by the personal computer since the first time I saw what it can do. Just displaying green text over a blank ‘TV’ screen was a big deal then.
  9. As a result of #8, I learned computer programming at the age of 9. QBasic was the first programming language I started with.
  10. My first video game console was an Atari 5200.
  11. I hate celeri.
  12. I love Ikea furniture and hope to have my own place filled with Ikea stuff of my selection (this is going to become a reality very soon, yay!).
  13. If I’m with you and you find me silent throughout the whole time, it means I’m uncomfortable with you. Otherwise I will be quite the chatterbox.
  14. I seriously think that I spend too much time in front of the computer (and too much money on it too!)
  15. I’m a procrastinator, yet I (almost) always get the job done.
  16. I tend to be physically attracted to girls whom are of mixed parentage, but it has never been a criteria for a mate.
  17. Being a Star Trek fan, I have always hoped to live to see the day humans develop interstellar space travel technology.
  18. I hardly wear any accessory when I go out. I find them too cumbersome.
  19. At times, I pay too much attention to detail in my work that I feel it’s almost borderline OCD.
  20. I prefer wearing shorts to long pants.
  21. I have a slightly deviated nasal septum. One of my nostrils is always partially blocked (which makes breathing through the nose a bitch when I catch a cold!)
  22. I used to have 2 piercings on my left ear. Later on I got too lazy to wear earrings.
  23. I’m a meat lover and will be for life!
  24. My favourite liquor is Baileys.
