Today marks the first day of the Year of the Rabbit. How did you celebrate your holidays? I think today I celebrated it by eating snacks non-stop since I woke up this morning. There are so many snacks to eat, and all of them we have been hoarding for weeks before the big day. I had snacks throughout the day, and when the time came for actual meals I was too full to eat. Yes, I know that this is not healthy and I will have to pay for it once the holidays are over, but seeing all those jars filled with yummies is just too tempting. I am very sure that I will be showing signs of prosperity (gaining weight) by the time the snacks are done for.
What is the theme for this year? Today it is purple for me and orange for him. Of course, I’m talking about the new clothes :D We have been saving up our new clothes just so we can have nice things to wear today. But this year’s Chinese New Year is a very HOT Chinese New Year! Even lounging around in air-con rooms, I feel very hot by just looking outside. Please stay hydrated by drinking lots of fluids, just like the children, who are staying hydrated by drinking lots of Jolly Shandy :P
For our friends and relatives who are doing travelling back to (and from) hometowns, please drive carefully. Please remember to maintain your vehicles well so that you can have a safe journey. “Hoppy” Chinese New Year to everybody who is celebrating!
I’ve finally finished the lighting layout of my new home. I’ve labelled each light so that it’ll be easy for me to map out the switches later. Hopefully the home will be bright enough with this layout.
Yes, that is true. Yesterday night when I was blowing my hair dry, for some reason it started spewing black smoke that smelled like burning paper. It was really scary because I didn’t want to become bald. So I quickly switched it off, but not quick enough to stop my room from smelling like I had over barbecued something. He told me that my hair smelled funky too >.<
So this morning we went to send it in for warranty. We were told that the supplier will only open on the 9th of February because they were closed for the Chinese New Year holidays. That’s fine with me. Then they told me that fixing it would take at least a month. WTF?!
Why does it take a whole month to fix one little hair dryer?! So if I want to warranty a fridge is it going to take me 6 months? But what to do, the hair dryer must be fixed, so I left it there and told them to call me the moment they get it back from repair. Hopefully I get my hair dryer back again soon.
Today we went to watch the Green Hornet. I was very much looking forward to it, not because I am a big Hornet fan, but because I am a big Jay Chou fan. Yes, I can admit that the only reason why I wanted to watch the Green Hornet is because Jay Chou is in it. We didn’t know it was going to be a comedy, we thought it was going to be some Dark Knight-esque movie with lots of angsty brooding people.
It was a pleasant surprise, but please don’t go watching it with very high Oscar level expectations. It seems to be the kind of movie that is specifically catered towards the male crowd, with lots of exploding gadgets and big car chases. But…em…I do believe they could have tried for a younger female lead. We had a hard time believing she was 36 >.<
The real saving grace (and for me the only :P) of the movie seems to be Jay Chou. Being very used to seeing him in more serious performances (Curse of the Golden Flower, Secret) it seems that he is also quite able to pull off a comedic role. And his English is also very much better than I had expected. Actually, I had expected him to be in a non-speaking role…but please, when you are hearing him speaking English, bear in mind that this is the guy that I need to have his lyrics in front of me to understand what he is singing…in his native Chinese!
Although to be fair, his diction has vastly improved since his first few albums. Oh do watch out for him showing off his wicked piano playing talents, he manages to get some of it into this movie too! If you have some time, stay for the credits. They play one of his first singles, Nunchuks, which is also the weapon used by the original Kato. Green Hornet was entertaining for us, if you don’t expect too much out of it, it will be entertaining for you too.
Be warned: Guy who plays Green Hornet in this movie is very irritating!
I didn’t have much expectations before watching this movie and rightly so, I wasn’t disappointed. I didn’t expect this to be a comedy but it apparently it is, and was pretty funny in some parts. 3D is not worth watching in this movie, but we had no choice as there were no non-3D screenings at the time we planned to watch. Entertaining overall.

Happy Chinese New Year 2011 from all of us! May you live long and proper in the wabbit year ahead!

Yes, it’s alive again… And hopefully it stays that way this time! I’ve moved it to a new Web host as the previous one was unreliable. Hope to blog more often now.
